Community Action Fund

CAFHelping Families in Financial Need

The Holliston Community Action Fund is a local initiative focused on aiding families in financial distress within the Holliston community. Central to their efforts is the "Emergency Assistance Grant" program, which has offered crucial support to over 100 individuals since its inception in 2009. While the grants provided might be modest in size, their enduring impact on families facing life's hardships is significant. By swiftly addressing immediate financial needs, the fund not only provides relief but also fosters a sense of community solidarity, demonstrating care and support for neighbors during times of adversity.

How it works

The grant process operates under the guidance of Holliston Youth and Family Services (HYFS), with all applications channeled through the department to ensure confidentiality. Nominations for grant recipients can be made by anyone through HYFS, which then assesses the applications to determine eligibility. Qualification criteria encompass individuals or families in the community facing financial strain due to unfortunate circumstances. The grants are intended to offer immediate and temporary financial relief for specific incurred expenses, aiding families in their path to recovery. Examples of grant purposes include covering a month's electric bill, a mortgage payment, or replacing a crucial item lost or stolen. HYFS assesses both qualification and the suitable grant amount, with applications held in strict confidentiality. The Community Action board approves grants solely based on HYFS recommendations, with no additional information shared beyond the grant amount.
